Smoke Out» The Long Road: Get All the General Info You Need Here

Day: Sunday -June 19, 2011

Stop: New Orleans, LA
Event Location: Kerry’s Irish Pub, 331 Decatur St. - directly across the street from the Bienville House Hotel in the French Quarter.
Event Time and Description: 6:30 pm-11 pm, Enjoy a pint and some live Irish music.
Sign-In Time: 7 pm to 9 pm, Look for a “Long Road” sign, Captain Jack will be at a table with the Long Road wristbands and sign in sheet.

Notes: The Long Road is a gypsy ride, in the sense that we do not ride as a group; you can ride with whatever group you want and take any route you want.   Counting the beginning and end points there are 6 sign in points.  The sign in points at New Orleans and Rockingham are mandatory.  You can only miss one sign in point and get credit for having completed the Long Road.

 

 

 


Day: Monday, June 20

Stop: Destin, FL
Distance: 250 miles
Route: The route runs through parts of Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama and Florida.  You can run Route 90 along the Gulf with spectacular views of the ocean.  It will be a little slower because Route 90 goes through some smaller towns but it is scenic and worthwhile. If you want, Cajun Encounters takes small 20 person groups in small boats through the bayou to check out the gators and such.  There is a discounted rate ($ 20) with a Long Road wristband.  The tour is two hours.  The GPS address for Cajun Encounters is 55345 Hwy 90, Slidell, LA (504) 834-1770. 
And / Or… there is a ferry that runs cross Mobile Bay form Dauphine Island to Fort Morgan.  If you are running I-10 take Exit 4.  Turn right onto Hwy188 and drive approximately 20 miles and then turn right on Hwy 193 and drive 8 miles to Dauphin Island. 1606-B Bienville Blvd., Dauphin Island, AL 36528 (Cost is $ 8 but check the weather and make sure the ferry is running).

Event Location: Henderson Beach State Park, 17000 Emerald Coast Parkway, Destin, Florida 32541; (850) 837-7550. If you want to camp it will be $15 for the night.  Do not call the park for a camping reservation.  We have already reserved and paid for camping spots and we will settle up at the campsite.

Day: Tuesday, June 21

Stop: Atlanta, GA
Distance: 322 miles
Route: Through Alabama and into Georgia.  I’m running 1-10 E, Hwy 231 N, Hwy 431 N, 185 N to I-85 N but there is a bunch of ways to go.
Event Location: Little Five Points, Atlanta, GA
Event Time and Description: 6 PM to whenever.  Night in the Little Five Points area of Atlanta which has great burgers at the Vortex, cool shops like the Junkman’s Daughter (closes at 7 pm) and great music at the Star Bar.

Day: Wednesday, June 22

Stop: Columbia, SC
Distance: 220 miles
Route: Through Georgia and into South Carolina. I-20 E to exit 74. Turn left onto Hwy 1 (Two Notch Rd.), travel N 3 mi, park will be on the right (across from Maurice’s BBQ).

Event Time and Description: 4 pm to 11 pm- Paddleboat races, BBQ with sweet tea, a hike around the lake if you feel like stretching your legs and settle in for live music.
Sign-In Time: 4 pm to 6 pm

Day: Thursday, June 23

Stop: Ladson, SC
Distance: 115 miles
Route: Cross the beautiful state of South Carolina.  I-77 S to I-26 E, exit 203.
Event Location: American Biker, 679 Treeland Drive, Ladson, SC 29456; (843) 641-0258
Event Time and Description: 7 pm to whenever. Party at American Biker.  Free camping and cook out (with LR wristband- $10 without).  Take a crazy ride in a dirt side-by-side.  

Note: Make sure you get to there early enough to get to downtown Charleston (and back) before the cookout.  You can leave your stuff at Am Biker and grab a map downtown (at the counter) …see the Atlantic Ocean and hit some cool shops.
Sign-In Time: 7 pm to 8:30 pm in the parking lot.

Stop: Rockingham, NC
Route: South Carolina to North Carolina. I-26 W, I-95 N, Hwy 52 N, US 1 N.
