Rollin in da mud at Gunstock

By Teddy "Bear" Babolcsay

People have been calling me a dirty bastard for quite a few years now. Now I don't take offence because I know their right! I just love getting down and dirty and rollin in da mud.

The weather conditions at Laconia's famous Gunstock Hill Climb was right up my alley.

Pouring rain, lightning and knee deep mud. While most of the other photographers there were keeping warm and dry, having their photo assistants hold over sized umbrellas over them and their gear at the bottom of the hill, this lil' piggy decided that you guys deserved better than that from me, so I scrambled my way up to the middle of the slippery slope to get you some shots that you'll only see here at MCM. It was the worst conditions in the long history of the Gunstock, N.H. hill climb and I , being the daring bear that I am wanted to get into the spirit of the event. Laying on my belly and using my filthy bandana to wipe my lens clean, I slithered up and down the side lines to catch all the action.

Conditions were so horrendous that not even the pick up crew had an easy time getting over to rescue the downed riders as they struggled to keep their thundering machines from slipping back over on them. Only a handful of riders managed to make it to the top of the hill that day. Most were caught in a trick bag of stinking foulness. I seemed that they had an even harder time getting their machines safely back down the hill after the failed attempts than they did pushing for the summit. After about 2 hours of having the brown slime shot into my face at the muzzle velocity of a 105mm recoilless rifle. I finally had had enough. I slid back down the hill on my ample bottom, schmoozed with the winners and consoled the losers.

That night when I got back to the bear cave, the crew I was staying with honored me with a shower from the garden hose before offering me the ceremonial bottle of Tequila.

My ass is still black and blue but I got the shots Bikernet's readers deserve. Now if I can just convince Helga to kiss my boo-boo's it will have all been worth while.
