The Horse Magazine Stampede to the Smoke Out! June 17, 2007 Barstow, California
By popular demand, the 2007 Stampede is off to its second year running. There are a few changes this year, so listen up. First, there are no prizes whatsoever. We plan on leaving from the Comfort Inn in Barstow, California at 6am, Sunday, June 17th, following the same route, I-40 all the way. The idea is to ride a rigid, no windshields or hard saddlebags, across country, just as they did during the Pony Express in the 1800s. If you want to ride the route on a Goldwing, that’s fine, but don’t expect your mug in the magazine, and don’t expect to be welcomed at the “Stampede Riders” set aside in Salisbury. As of this date, I will be riding my Shovel, along with Fab Kev and Steve Broyles. There is no registration fee, no pre-sign up or anything. Just be there, lounge at the pool while we all sing “Cum Bai Ya.” … or not. Although not finalized yet, I’m working on tying the run to a charitable event, like collecting money for girls trying to put themselves through pole dancing school, so your efforts will benefit those in need.
Stay tuned for updates and stuff like that.
